From the Vets’ Captain

Hi everybody. Another season is all but over and this is the last edition of Well Bowled for 2017.

Our league results for August are as follows.

On the 2nd we played Harrow A away and it poured with rain all afternoon. We won on 2 rinks (21-16, 19-15) but lost on the third 9-18 and so tied the aggregate 49-49 but gained a very creditable 3 points.

On the 7th we were at home to Ladygate. Not a great afternoon as we lost on two rinks (16-20, 8-16) and won narrowly on the third 15-14 so we just scraped 1 point.

On the 16th we played Eastcote A at home and again only managed 1 point, but on the 21st in our final league match of the season we gained 4 points against Wealdstone by winning two rinks (21-13 and 15- 13) and the aggregate 51-46. A little late to save us from relegation.

On a brighter note we are through to the semi finals of the Vets League Cup. We played at Lupton on the 3rd August and despite having several of our regular bowlers away we won 57-54. Well done to all who played. Our semi final is against Eastcote A on September 4th at Pinner Bowls Club.

The very best of luck to all those in our Finals Weekend, and here is hoping that next year we have a more successful season.

The Vets’ B Team

Our match results for August were:-

17th Eastcote, home.

They conceded....................5 points

23rd Harrow B, away. 14-15, 9-18, 19-13. Aggregate 42-46......1 point

29th Stanmore, away. 9-27, 15-18, 8-23. Aggregate 32-68.........0 points

One more match to play but I can confidently predict that we are not going to be promoted to the second Division! On the other hand we have learned a lot about match play in this our first season, and have enjoyed getting “out and about” bowling against other clubs. Visiting other greens and clubhouses has made us

appreciate all the more the facilities and friends that we have here at Northwood.

From the Ladies’ Captain

How sad – only one more month of outside bowling.

The annual Bank Holiday Monday was a great success – the Captains beating the Presidents. A perfect sunny day and we were still sitting out at 8.00pm. 36 people played and 47 stayed for supper. As usual North- wood’s hospitality and warmth were enjoyed by all.

Carol and Andrew Melvin were present at this game and I asked Carol if we could have a visit to the Civic Centre in Uxbridge. All I need to do is email and they will arrange a visit as well as having a cream tea. Anyone interested let me know and I will see what dates are available. This will be when the season has finished.

At the moment we are in the lead in the Weald League, with only 4 matches to go.

Congratulations to Angela Beckley and Eithne Adderley on winning the 2 Woods Pairs. Runners-up Ann Jenkins and Sally Wood. They will pick up their cups at our Ladies Presentation Lunch on Monday 16th October.

Our Finals Days are 12th and 14th September and as usual we are having a ploughman’s lunch and everyone is invited. Just put your name down to reserve a lunch.

Enjoy the next month.
